Around 50-60 kms from madikeri is Talacauvery. Talacauvery is the birth place of the sacred River, Cauvery. It is situated on the slopes of the Brahmagiri Hills and can be reached by motorable road, from Bhagamandala, which is at a distance of about 5 miles. There is a temple dedicated to Ishwara and Ganapati at the source of the River.
"Tula Sankaramma" day usually occurs in the month of October and is regarded as the most auspicious day. There is a small square shape tank adjacent to the side of a fairly big tank in Talacauvery. Devout pilgrims beleive that on the day of the "Tula Sankramana", the holy river raises and her arrival is indicated by the sudden upsurge of water in the pond.
The Cauvery Jatra, which begins on "Tulu Sankaramma" day continues for one full month and is an event of great importance to the people in Kodagu and the surrounding districts within and outside the state.
It is beleived that a great philosopher and sage called Kaavera came and lived near Brahmagiri with his wife. He had no children and so performed rigid penance. Brahma, pleased by his devotion blessed him with a daughter, Lopamundra. In due course of time Agasthya was attracted by the divine beauty of Lopamundra and expressed his desire to marry her. She agreed to marry him on the condition that she should never be left alone.
One day Agasthya went to have bath in the holy river Kannike, which led to their separation as Lopamudra was separated on the other side of Bramagiri hill. Lopamudra was left alone and immediately converted herself into a river and began to flow as River Cauvery for the benefit of humanity.
After reaching the source of Cauvery, many people venture to climb about 300 feet to the summit of the Brahmagiri peak where, It is said the seven sages meditated.
Apart from its great importance as a centre of pilgrimage, Talacauvery is an ideal place for a visit by the tourists for its natural beauty and extremely picturesque land scope.

The rituals begin a day before by pouring rice into 'akshaya patra' in the morning. The 'Bhandara' being kept at Bhagandeshwara temple, Bhagamandala is carried to Talacauvery after performing pooja.
