Halebidu Temple, Hassan.

It is 225 kms from Bangalore to halibedu. I got lost and had to visit halibedu before Belur which was actually nice. If you took the SEZ route near Hassan then you will land up in halibedu instead of Belur - thanks to Hassan administration officials. No sign boards !
The Hoysalas ruled for over 200 years and built something unique which stand today. Inside the temple is a very smooth platform for the dancers to perform their dances.
I heard that the queen was mainly responsible for the movement of capital from Belur to Halibedu and the building of the temple and surrounding structures. She was a dancer and some interesting things she has done in Halibedu.
She had bath at the structure built at Hulikere. So I deduced that there were no places or palaces during those times. Kings and queens lived out in tents. If you observe carefully they were more green and thoughts of green.
Typical Hoysala architecture like Somanathapur which is better preserved, The star shaped architecture, the bands of elephants, horses, mythology, the magnificient sculptures of the gods and their tales.
When I went only one shiva temple rituals or poojari was present. Sadly, the temple has been destroyed and the ASI's work is more than commendable in restoring this ancient city with a man made reservoir Dwarasamudra. This reservoir is huge and deep.
Nice sculptures of the Ramayana and the gods. Very beautifully depicted. I wonder what the other temple that is 1 km away near the Hulikere. Nice day to spend the day.
The temple is magnificient. I found a fortunate and neat place to have my meal before proceeding to Belur temple. Just keep in mind that Belur municipality robs you of Rs.30 for parking. Make sure you make a complaint protesting the exorbitant fees.
