Dubare elephant camp is a government undertaking. The camp has couple of trained elephants. Switch of your cell phones or any electronic stuff other than cameras. Elephants have a very keen sense of hearing. The camp is a few kilometres from Kushal Nagar. Also another route from Mysore, Kushal nagar, Gudde Hosur and a turn towards Siddapur (10-15 kms). There are sign boards.
You can have a gala time in the water and the camp can be reached either by boat of by wading through the water. There are flat stones but slippery, so you need to be a bit careful. Get across by hoping from Nanjarayapatna to Dubare by hopping over the rocks on the riverbed. You could go rafting but its no big deal. Rapids are not that exciting.
Watch Elephants being groomed, fed. You could also take an elephant ride(45 min-1 hour). There are some expensive cottages. Around 3000-5k Rs for a whole day. Nice place for a day just frolicking in the water and watching elephants outdoor even without spending or renting cottages. Throughtout the area you can see huge tracts of dense bamboo clusters. The bamboo is harvested.
Harangi dam which is close to Dubare is closed. No use going there. When we went it was closed due to security reasons. The mahouts are poorly paid with scant resources. They should be given regular salaries and their demands are genuine.
